Silas Columbus Jolly was born March 26, 1866 in Leake County, Mississippi, the son of James A. Jolly and Mary D (Crowson) Jolly.

The 1900 U.S. Census lists Silas at the age of 34 with his wife Annie and three small children living on their own farm in Beat 1 of Edinburg in Leake County, Mississippi.[1]
By the time of the 1910 Census, Silas and Annie, now married for 18 years are shown with nine children and were now living in Beat 4 of Neshoba County, Mississippi.[2]
In the 1920 U.S. Census, all ten of the children were living at home with their parents on the family farm in Neshoba County.[3]
Silas, his wife Annie and four of their children are listed in the 1930 U.S. Census living on the farm in Neshoba County, Mississippi.[4]
The 1940 Census has Silas at the age of 74, Annie at 68, with their youngest son, 21 year old Leroy Jolly living together on the farm in Neshoba County.[5]
Silas Jolly died September 3, 1948 and was buried at the Ebenezer Cemetery in
Edinburg, Leake County, Mississippi[6][7]
