Biography

James was born on 14 November 1852 in Poplar Bluff, Butler, Missouri, USA to David Madison Jonas and Laodicia Ann Farmer, the second of 7 children. His siblings were: Clinton, Francis Marion, Nancy Emile Booth, George W., Andrew J. and Rosa M.^[1][2]

James married Ella Gordon Stratton, the daughter of Joel W. Stratton and Vollie Elizabeth Owen. Together they raised ten children: Benjamin Francis, Ida Alma, Malcolm L., Vollie Ann, Mary Olive, James Looney, Eli Clinton, John Kyle, Nellie Gordon and Jesse Thomas^[3][4][2].

Ella died in 1934 in Artesia, Eddy, New Mexico, USA. James died there on 29 January 1944^[5]. They are buried in Woodbine Cemetery in Artesia.^[2]
