Biography

Elizabeth Jones

Elizabeth was born in July 1818 in England[1] and died in 1906, in Jackson, Mississippi. William Hamilton Watkins was her second husband. Elizabeth Brien's DAR application shows her as Elizabeth (Jones) Johnson.[2]

Elizabeth lived her last days with her son's family. Betty Noland wrote:

Mother said she spent her time in bed, propped up, wearing a little lace cap, and they all waited on her. Mother was very fond of her and was named for her. Her first husband, Mr. Johnson, had died in New Orleans where, I think, they had lived. She and [William Hamilton Watkins] had 11 children.

Research Notes

Harriet O. Johnson (11) is listed with W.H. & Elizabeth Watkins in the 1850 census (along with W. H. Watkins Jr., 4, and Thomas H. Watkins, 2). W.H. (35) is listed as born in Mississippi. Elizabeth (32) was born in England; Harriet and W.H. Jr. were born in Louisiana and Thomas was born in Mississippi.[3] Later records call her Harriet O. Watkins. Her tombstone has Hattie O. Watkins.[4]
