Biography

At this time it is not known when Daniel arrived in Colchester, the earliest record I have seen, so far, for Daniel Jones in Colchester is from the Dec. 31, 1716 he received 4s, 8p for "twenty eight ratels snakes tayls," Dec. 13, 1718, 10p for "five Rattler Snakes tayles," and on Dec. 20, 1720 he received 6p for three "Ratle Snakes." Nov. 19, 1722, Daniel Jones paid 09s tax. Pg 30, May 1, 1725, "M. Dan Joans of Hebron to Killing twenty Ratle Snaks att the Leg on the Left hand of the Rhoad to Glastonbury against Allyns farm," 3s 4p. Same page, June 8 1725, "to 1 Ratle Snaks tail," 2p. Daniel Jones shows up in a number of town records. At a court of probate held at Colchester in and for East Haddam, April 5 1748: James Treadway, Charles Bulkley and Isreal Foote "were appointed to make distribution of the estate (both real and personal) of Mr Dan'l Jones late of Colchester dec'd according to the agreement of the guardian of Amasa Eldest son of sd dec'd & make return to this court." Records state that Daniel is buried in the Old Colchester Burial Grounds behind the Bacon Academy building. There is no stone there to mark his grave site. There is one small grouping of Jones graves for a Batheul Jones and his wife Lydia, and an area nearby which is void of stones and this may be where Daniel is buried, and his stone was either broken and is buried, or there may not have been a stone for him. There is a stone for his daughter, Mary Jones, who died in 1729, and this stone has been placed next to the Isham burial plot and is located with other broken stones.

Jones-52422 and Jones-13538 appear to represent the same person because: They have the same wife and son (Amasa). This whole Worthington/Jones family tree has duplicates for almost every person.
