Biography

John Franklin Jones the son of Robert L. Jones and Nancy Pannell-Jones, according to records born 1853 in Pontotoc County, Ms. married in 1879 to Tranquilla Haggadeth Darling-daughter of Ephriam and and Peninah(Pennie)Coley-Jones. Little is know about John Franklin except he lived near the Keownville, community and came from a large family with Hugh, Elize, Darrell, Nannie and Nancy. and had a larger family. Edward, Ephriam Andrew(Drew), Lum, Henry, Robert,Isom, girls-Elizabeth (Starnes), Nancy (Young)-{perhaps named after Nancy Pannell-Jones?}, Mae (Pather)had over 39 grandchildren. It is possible his father fought in the Civil war- Robert Jones buried at Mt. Gilead, saw battle with the 31st regiment, was in Hoods campaign in North Carolina, records say that John Franklin Jones father moved to Mississippi from North Carolina, it is now believed he came home from the war last serving in North Carolina. More than likely to marry Nancy Pannell, whose family is buried all over the Mt. Gilead Cemetery.(Before being married John did sign a bond agreement to promise to pay 200 dollars if he backed out of the wedding, R.W.Pannell signed with him on the bond-this he was the husband of Eliza Ann Elizabeth Darling-Pannell(Sister to Tranquilla) Tranquilla has been the source of many legends, said to have refused to leave her family when Indians tried to get her to go with them to the reservations. Many of the (Mannaseh Darlings)(Brother) still live in Union County, and their legends match those of my family(the Tranquilla Darlings)(Sister)(ex. an Indian princess married into the Darling Family.) true or not these stories have kept the family legends alive. The truth is these people lived in Union County, they worked there, they had their children there and died there and we would not be here without them.
