Biography

Birth

Rachel G. was born on 2 Jun 1791[1][2] in Jones County, NC to Bridger Jones and Rachel Barry Jones.[3][4]

Marriage

She and John Wise obtained their marriage license on 6 Aug 1816 in Bulloch County, GA, and were married there on 8 Aug 1816 by Elisha Bowen, J.I.C.[5]

  • 1840 United States Census: Racheal Wise was living in Savannah, GA. Her household consisted of 1 white female 50-59, 1 white male 30-39, 8 white males 20-29, 1 white male 15-19, 1 white female 15-19, 1 white male 10-14, 1 white male 5-9, 2 white females 5-9, and 7 enslaved people.[6]
  • 1850 United States Census: Rachael Wise was living in Savannah, GA. She owned real estate valued at $600.[7]
  • 1860 United States Census: Rachel Wise was living in Savannah, GA. She was a lady of leisure and owned real estate valued at $3,000 and personal property valued at $500.[8]

  • 2 Dec 1851 – Bulloch County, GA – Rachel G. Wise, administrator of the estate of John Wise, deceased, sold at public auction to Chenuck E. Fletcher, both of Bulloch County, for $825, town lots No. 20, No. 24, No. 25, and No. 26 in States Burrough and a 10-acre lot on the west side of the town, also, a 490-acre tract of land granted to John Wise and a 100-acre tract of land granted to William Holloway.   • 2 Dec 1851 – Bulloch County, GA – Rachel Wise, constituted administratrix of the estate of John Wise, deceased, of Chatham County, sold at public auction to Allen Waters of Bulloch County, for $409, town lot No. 15 in States Burrough with appurtenances.   • 2 Dec 1851 – Bulloch County, GA – Rachael Wise, constituted administratrix of the estate of John Wise, deceased, sold at public auction to Frances Akins, both of Bulloch County, for $265, a 500-acre tract of land originally granted to Nathan Smith. Wit: Adam Jones, Augustus Lanier, J.P.[17]
  • 21 Jan 1852 – Chatham County, GA – Rachael Wise and George Cally to John H. Crawford, all of Chatham County, for $1,500, a 405-acre tract of land about six miles from Savannah on the Louisville Road. Wit: Jno. A. Staley, Philip M. Russell.[18]

Death & Burial

Rachel died on 6 Sep 1871 in Savannah, GA, and was buried there in Laurel Grove Cemetery, North in Lot 641.[2]
