Birth and Early Life
Benson Isaac Jones was born on 20 January 1840 in Warren County, Pennsylvania, United States[1] to Lewis Jones (1800-1867) and Marietta Chase (1812-1891) as the fifth of nine children.
Siblings
Lourinda Jones was born on 1 May 1831 in Pennsylvania, United States. She married Coryell Leroy Douglass (1831-1894) on 18 March 1854. Lourinda died on 22 May 1891 in Warren, Warren, Pennsylvania, United States.
Eliza M. Jones was born on 19 September 1832 in Farmington Township, Warren County, Pennsylvania, United States. She married Edward Thurber Hale (1830-1893) before 1855. Eliza died on 13 January 1924 in Pine Grove Township, Warren County, Pennsylvania, United States.
William Jones was born on 5 December 1834 in Pennsylvania, United States. He died on 31 August 1904 in Warren, Warren, Pennsylvania, United States.
Marshall Jones was born on 22 February 1837 in Warren, Warren, Pennsylvania, United States. He died on 13 February 1852 in Warren, Warren, Pennsylvania, United States.
Marietta Jones was born on 8 May 1842 in Warren, Warren, Pennsylvania, United States. She married Lorenzo Fields (1817-1888) c. 1867. Marietta died on 30 May 1924 in Cumberland County, Tennessee, United States.
Eli Jones, twin, was born on 24 June 1846 in Pennsylvania, United States. He married Mary Adelaide "Addie" LaDow (1848-1917). Eli died in February 1917 in Russell, Warren, Pennsylvania, United States.
Levi Jones, twin, was born on 24 June 1846 in Warren, Warren, Pennsylvania, United States. He married in 1885 Annie J. Enos (widow of Jonathan T. Wixson when she died) (1860-1936). Levi died on 19 April 1886 in Warren County, Pennsylvania, United States.
Jane Jones was born on May 1849 in Pennsylvania, United States. She married 1) Mr. Smith who died before 1880 and 2) Wesley Lewis Peck (1846-1927) about 1883. Jane died after the 7 April 1930 when she was found widowed again and in the Rouse Pauper Hospital in Brokenstraw, Warren, Pennsylvania, United States.
In 1850 the family lived in Pine Grove, Warren, Pennsylvania and they were all included on the 1850 United States Federal Census.
In 1860 and 1880 he lived at the parental home in Farmington, Warren, Pennsylvania.
Marriage and Family
On 24 December 1872 Benson married Eletta Eliza Hunter (1853-1895) daughter of Richard Charles Hunter (1812-1882) and Philena Akeley (1840-1924).

Philena Marietta Jones was born on 22 July 1873. She died on 14 January 1880 in Foster, McKean, Pennsylvania, United States.
Lewis Benson Jones was born on 21 March 1876 in Russell, Warren, Pennsylvania, United States. He died on 11 February 1941 in Russell, Warren, Pennsylvania, United States.
Martha Hunter Jones was born on 24 July 1881 in Pennsylvania, United States. She died on 2 July 1945.
Nina Lorinda Jones was born on 4 August 1883 in Gilmore, Greene, Pennsylvania, United States. She died on 23 December 1910 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California, United States.
John Heyl Vincent Jones was born on 27 December 1885 in Pennsylvania, United States. He died on 3 April 1923 in New York, United States.
Military
He was a Sergeant in the Pennsylvania Infantry, Union Army of the Republic. He enlisted as a Corporal at the age of 21 on 24 September 1861 as a Private in Co. D, 111 PA Volunteers. His occupation was laborer when he enlisted. At the end of the war, his muster out date was 19 July 1865 at Washington, D.C.. In 1862 the regiment was on garrison duty in Baltimore, Maryland and Harpers Ferry. The 111th was at the Battle of Chancellorsville, April 30 to May 6, 1863, which was fought in Spotsylvania County, Virginia, near the village of Chancellorsville, under the command of George Ashworth Cobham, Jr.. He must have reenlisted after the war as there is a record showing that he was finally mustered out at the age of 42 on 8 February 1882 as a Sgt.
Later Life
Benson lived in Carrollton, Cattaraugus, New York and worked in the oil industry in 1905. He was a widower and his daughter, Martha, who was a nurse, lived with him. Between this date and April 1910, he moved back to Pine Grove, Warren, Pennsylvania, where he lived with his son, John Heyl Vincent Jones, his son's wife and two children in 1910 at 70 years old.
In 1920 he rented a home in Warren, Warren, Pennsylvania and living with him were his daughter Martha Hunter Jones and they also had a young woman roomer.
Death and Burial
Benson died, widowed, on 18 February 1924 in Warren County, Pennsylvania, United States. The cause of death was chronic heart disease at the age of 83 years, 1 month and 10 days.[1] [1] He was buried in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Russell, Warren, Pennsylvania.
