Biography

Flora Annette Jones was born circa September 25, 1892, in Richmond, Wayne County, Indiana, to Ann Barbara Gensman and James Edgar Jones. [1] [2] [3]

On November 6, 1912, in Wayne County, Indiana, Flora married Walter Raymond Stevens. [2] [4] [5] [6] [7]

Circa January 11, 1958, in Richmond, Flora married Glenn Evanston Whitesell. [8]

Flora died circa October 8, 1958, in rural Richmond, Indiana. She is buried in Lutherania Cemetery in Richmond, Indiana. [8] [9] [10]

    "Mrs Flora STEVENS WHITESELL, 75 y, died Sunday morning at Friends Fellowship Community, where she and her husband, Glenn E. WHITESELL, had resided since selling their home on Liberty Pike this spring. She had been in the hospital for five months and returned to Friends Fellowship only 3 weeks ago.
    "She was born in Richmond, the daughter of Mr & Mrs James E. JONES, early residents here, where her father was owner of the Reliance Foundry. She had lived in the city all her life and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Elkhorn Club and past matron of the Order of Eastern Star. During World War II, Mrs WHITESELL helped organize the local United Service Organization (USO), and was currently a member of the board of the American Red Cross. She was an avid sports fan and until 1964 had not missed a sectional basketball tournament since they started in 1913. She became interested in basketball in 1912 when she would watch her brother, Ray JONES, play at the Young Men's Christian Association. She was in the hospital suffering from a heart attack during the 1964 tournament.
    "Surviving are the husband, Glenn E. WHITESELL; 1 son W. Ray STEVENS, Jr. of Richmond; (hidden text; privacy) 3 sisters Mrs Edmund SUDHOFF, Mrs Walter CASKEY & Mrs Henry BECK all of Richmond; 1 brother Ray JONES of Indianapolis. Services for Mrs WHITESELL will be held Wednesday at the Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Lutherania Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday"
