Although no known primary birth record exists for Sarah Jones, an unsourced 1905 article in The New England Historical and Genealogical Register assigns her the birth date of 20 February, 1644, at Guilford, Connecticut Colony; that is actually the birth date of her husband, John Pratt. No other known Jones family having been present at Guilford at that time, she is understood to have been a daughter of Thomas Jones – one of the Guilford founders of 1639 – and his first wife, Mary (Unknown) Jones, whose maiden surname has not been discovered. Whatever the unknown basis for the 1905 Register piece, the logical placement of Sarah's birth is certainly in the mid-1640s, and she is shown to have been "of Guilford" at the time of her marriage, on the 8th of August, 1669, to John Pratt at Saybrook.
The 1905 Register dates Sarah's death to July, 1726, but again without citing a source. This appears to be incorrect, as Sarah was alive – although described as "weak and aged" – about August, 1726, when her sons were appointed as administrators of her husband's estate in her stead[1]. Given the description of her circumstance, her death may, however, have come not long after that date.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Sarah by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Sarah:
The DOB of her husband John Pratt -- 20 Feb 1644 -- has often been misread & applied to Sarah Jones. The NEHGR of Oct. 1905 (Vol. 59, pp. 386-7) places Sarah 3rd among the children of my ancestor Thomas Jones of Guilford -- implying only that she was born prior to brother Thomas (Junr.), b. 1650 -- but it shows John Pratt's DOB in a position that makes some think the date refers to Sarah. We can know only that she was born between the founding of Guilford in 1639, and the birth of young Thomas in 1650... but we can reasonably surmise a DOB in the middle of that period, say 1645. Her mother was not Mary Carter, but Mary (Unknown), 1st wife of Thomas, Senr.; this Mary died in 1650, and Thomas then m. widow _?_ Carter, who had a dau. named Mary.
