He was the son of Andrew Belson Jones, (x Nov 1862 - 22 Jan 1936) and Victoria Carter Jones, (10 Aug 1869 - 25 Nov 1936)

Marriage to Lula Leeanna (Kilgore) Hutchins

In mid-1920 in Etowah County, Alabama George Washington Jones married Lula Leeanna (Kilgore), aka Mrs. Henry Hutchins (29 April 1890 - 25 Feb 1983), daughter of John Samuel Kilgore, (x April 1853 - 11 July 1925) and Nancy Elizabeth Hammond, (x Feb 1854 - 24 Oct 1946). This was George's 1st marriage.

On 13 Dec 1962 at 5:30 a.m. at his home 3609 Elliott Avenue, in Gadsden, Etowah County, Alabama George Washington Jones Sr., died. He was 72 years old. His remains were laid to rest in Crestwood Memorial Cemetery, East Gadsden, Etowah County, Alabama. A Find-A-Grave memorial has been created for him. Obituary Notice

“George W. Jones, 72. 3609 Elliott Avenue, died unexpectedly yesterday at his residence at 5:30 a.m. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow in Collier-Butler Chapel, with the Rev. George W. Riddle officiating. Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Ralph Stallings, Vaughn Hoge, G. W. Beard, Carl Machen, Bill Durham and Grady Samples. Honorary pallbearers will be all personal friends. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lula Kilgore Jones; Four sons, G. W. Jones and Bill G. Jones both of Gadsden, Johnny J. Jones, Birmingham and A. C. Hutchins, of Gary, Indiana; one daughter, Mrs. J. W. Morris, Gadsden; Two brothers, Belson Jones, Centre and Frank Jones, Chattanooga, Tenn.; Three sisters, Mrs. Henry Eubanks, Gadsden, and Mrs. Seals Carroll, and Mrs. J. D. Wright, both of Boaz, 15 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. A native and lifelong resident of Etowah County, Mr. Jones was a member of Dwight Baptist Church. He was a veteran of World War 1, having served with the 159th Infantry 31st Division in France. The body will remain at Collier-Butler though the hour of service.” NOTE THESE CORRECTIONS: George only had 3 children with Lula, 3 sons; two of the children listed in the obituary notice, A.C. Hutchins and Eva Mae Hutchins aka Mrs, James Welburn Morris are step-children from Lula Kilgore's first marriage to Henry Hutchins.
