Biography

Flora Bell Jones, daughter of John Anthony Jones & Ida Belle Bergstresser, was born 15 Dec 1876 (a Friday at 3:00 am) in Virginia, IL. ^[1] She married in Bloomington, IL on 19 Oct 1904 to Otis Smith Allen, son of Stephen Haley Allen & Lucina A. Smith. She died of Breast Cancer on 28 Aug 1950 in Topeka, KS.

Silverware engraved "FBJ" was passed down to her great grandson Christopher Sirmons Haviland.

Per genealogist Wayne V. Jones:

She moved to Bloomington, Ill., with her parents in Sept. 1896. She attended Illinois Wesleyan University there for two years where she became a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.

Her father-in-law, Stephen Haley Allen, was a prominant attorney in Topeka, Kansas, and an authority on International Law. He and his son Otis established the law firm of Allen and Allen in Topeka in 1899. ...

Like her husband, she took an active interest in local affairs. They were members of the First Presbyterian Church. She was a member of The Woman's Club, the Jeffersonian Club, the West Side Forestry Club and of the Girl Scout Council.

They had six children: Catherine, Ellen Josephine, Florence Lucina, Ida Louise, Stephen Haley, Jr. and John Otis.^[2]
