MR GEORGE JONES. (1924, February 9). The Methodist (Sydney, NSW : 1892 - 1954), p. 10. http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article155277154 MR GEORGE JONES. In the sudden passing away of Mr. George Jones the Canowindra Circuit has suffered a great loss. The late Mr. Jones had a long association with the Methodist Church. He came to Canowindra from 'Victoria, and by hard toil and enterprise he made good in farming pursuits. There was no one in the Canowindra district who was held in greater esteem than the late . Mr.Jones. He was a man greatly beloved by his neighbours and friends. Mr. Jones was a keen student of the Bible. He also read a wide range of literature, hence he lived an earnest Christian life, and took a keen interest in the government of his Church. His contributions in the discussions of the Canowindra trustee and quarterly meetings were always of a constructive nature. To the minister in charge of the circuit Mr. Jones was a true friend. He was also a friend of missions, being a liberal supporter of the Home and Foreign Missionary Societies. The call to 'come up higher' to the 'better land' came, to him very suddenly. While enjoying his evening meal he fell asleep, and never regained consciousness. It can be truly said of him, 'He walked with God, and was not, for God took him.' Mr. Jones was sixty-two years of age, and leaves a widow and a grown-up family of five daughters, and three sons to mourn the loss of one who was a good father and a noble Christian.
