2nd Lt Eugene Jones served in the United States Civil War. Enlisted: 7 Mar 1862 Mustered out: 1864 (wounded) Side: CSA Regiment(s): Co. K, 36th Regiment, Mississippi Infantry
On March 7,1862, he enlisted as a Private in the 36th Regiment of Mississippi Volunteers[1]. By May of 1862 it had become Company K[2]. By July 1862 he had obtained the rank of 3rd Seargent[3]. On February 14, 1863, the rank of 2nd junior lieutenant[4]. On July 4,1863, he was captured at Vicksburg, MS[5]. He was paroled on December 20,1863[6]. Then, in July 1864, he was shot in the right ankle in battle in front of Atlanta and sent to the hospital[7][8]. He was subsequently discharged permanently disabled.
After the war he returned home to Claiborne.
In 1863, he first married Anna M Jones. She passed away the following year. They had no children.
He married again, on 17 Jan 1867, in Copiah, Mississippi, to Mary S Jones (daughter of Robert T Jones & Mary Battle). They had one known child.
Living in Copiah, it is here he passed away in 1913 and was buried at the Jones Cemetery.
