John was born on 20 Oct 1835 in Bulloch, Georgia, United States[1][2] and moved to Columbia, Florida some time before 4 Mar 1858, on which date he married Mary Rebecca in Columbia, Florida.[3][4] John died on 10 Jun 1892 in Sanderson, Baker, Florida. He is buried in South Prong Cemetery in Sanderson, Baker, Florida.[2]
Civil War
In Oct 1861 John enlisted in the 1st Florida Cavalry in Lake City, Columbia, Florida.[3] He was wounded in August 1862 in the Battle of Richmond (Kentucky) where he received "a wound by a rifle ball in the left side of neck and shoulder from which the left arm perished away and from the effects of which together with rheumatism contracted in said service and in line of duty.[4] He was honorably discharged from the CSA in Kentucky in Aug 1862 for the wounds he received, from which he never recovered.[4]
