Peder Jonsen was born on 18 Oct 1835 at Urkegjerde in Hjørundfjord, the son of Jon Olsen (1811 - 1884) and Karen Pedersdatter (1810 - 1881).^[1]

In the 1865 census, Peder (age 31) was the unmarried son of John Olsen at Urke fremre in Hjørundfjord.^[2]

In the 1875 census, Peder lived at Urke with his parents John and Karen.^[3] His occupation was painter ("maler").

Peder married Karen Helene Einarsdatter Heltne / Hole (1843 - 1932) on 8 Jun 1884 in Hjørundfjord.^[4] Their children were:

1. Johan Edvard Andreas Pedersen Skaar (1886 - 1975)
2. Karl Ragnvald Pedersen Skår (1888 - 1974)

In the 1891 census, Peder was the married head of household at Skaar in Hjørundfjord.^[5] He lived with his wife Karn, sons Johan and Karl, and a domestic servant.
