Jordaan-1576 and Jordaan-155 appear to represent the same person because: Because I don't belong to the trusted list I had to create my own Jan Jordaan. Please could you merge them. They are the same person.

Hi Jeanne, it is against the WikiTree Honor Code to create duplicates because one is not on the trusted list of a profile. One should apply to get accepted to the trusted list of a profile. For this one time we will merge; the next time you'll have to recycle the duplicate if created on purpose. Also - please HIDE the automatic place name suggestions for per-1900 profiles. South Africa and the provinces did not exist until the 20th century.

Really sorry Philip, as I didn't do it knowingly. I did not understand the process and did not realise that I could ask to belong to a trusted list. I am very new to all this. I will definitely not do this in future. Also the place names, what do you do then if for example you have Somerset East come up? What should I reference this place list as?

Hi Jeanne, you can as I said hide the feauture for automatic country and town namig. Click twice when editing a profile on the "hide" feature and it will be hidden. Your browser will then override and remember the place names you enter. See here for the Cape Colony (most English place names started around then - ca. 1806-1900). Before roughly 1806 it was the Dutch Cape Colony.
