Biography

During the 1930 census, Ernest lived with his parents and siblings in Upper Tygart, Carter County, Kentucky. During the 1940 census, Ernest lived with his father in Carter County, Kentucky. He enlisted in the Army on May 11, 1944. in Newport, Kentucky. From October 1, 1994 to at least January 1, 2009, Ernest lived in Morehead, Muhlenberg, Kentucky.

Obituary-- Mr. Ernest Jordan, age 90, of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, formerly of Olive Hill, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday evening, August 27, 2014, at the V. A. Medical Center in Muskogee, Oklahoma.

He was born July 30, 1924, in Olive Hill, Kentucky, a son of the late Hiram and Della Logan Jordan.

Ernest was of the Christian faith and a member of Bowen Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He retired from General Refractories and ran a gas station in Globe for several years. Ernest enjoyed trading just about anything but especially pocket knives, so much so that he became known as the 'Knifetrader'. He also enjoyed listing to music and watching the Wildcats play basketball. Ernest loved all his grandchildren and great grandchildren and spending time with them was very precious to him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruby Logan Jordan, and his second wife, Marie Wilson Cook Jordan; one brother, Fredrick Jordan; two sisters, Iva Arthurs and Ruth Cline; one adopted daughter, Brenda Logan Stevens; and one stepdaughter, Sharon Hildebrand.

Ernest is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Jim and June Jordan of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; one stepson, Fred Lane Cook and his wife, Pauletta, of Rush, Kentucky; and two stepdaughters, Colleen Smith of Morehead, Kentucky, and Hope Hawes of Shelbyville, Kentucky. Ernest also is survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him. Special friends Lori Marlar and Richard and Diane Jenkins held special places in his heart. Each family member and each friend were Ernest's most prized possessions.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2014, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, Kentucky, with Brother Clyde Holbrook and Brother Dale Richmond officiating. Burial will follow in the Olive Hill Memorial Park with full military honors conducted by the Olive Hill American Legion Post No. 138.

Friends may visit from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, September 2, 2014, and until the service hour on Wednesday at Globe Funeral Chapel, 17277 West US Highway 60, Olive Hill, Kentucky 41164.
