William was born in 1795 in Kentucky.[1][2]
William and his wife, Polly, moved to Illinois while the state was still a territory.[1] In October 1847, he moved to the site of the future town of Pleasantville, Iowa.[1][2] The had two sons with them, as well as all they owned, a horse, and a land warrant from service in the Mexican War.[1]
The Jordans were important to the founding of Pleasantville.[1] They opened the first trading post and the first post office.[1][3]
William and Polly had two sons, Miles and Wesley.[1]
William died October 22, 1861 in Pleasantville.[4] He is buried in the Pleasantville Cemetery.[4]
