Thomas Jordan III was a Virginia colonist.

Thomas Jordan[1] was born 6 Jul 1660 the child of Thomas Jordan and Margaret Brasseur.[2][3]

He left the Quakers and became an Episcopalian serving as Vestryman for Nansemond County 1702-09. Served as Sheriff of Nansemond County 1708-18, Lieutenant of the Militia 1715, and Justice 1732.[4] Thomas Jordan was elected to the Virginia House of Burgesses from Nansemond County in 1696-97.[5]

"He had by wife Elizabeth issue;

  • 1 Martha b 22, 11mo 1680—
  • 2 Thomas, b 19, 5mo 1681—
  • 3 Elizabeth, b 18, 9mo 1683—
  • 4 William, b 22, 11mo 1688. Thomas Jordan (4) was a Church Warden of Suffolk Parish, Nansemond Co, year 1757, and was probably dead July 13, 1759, when he is spoken of as a “former Church Warden.”[6]

On 6 December 1679 he married Elizabeth, daughter of William Burgh, in Virginia Colony.[7]

The commonly seen date of death 13 Jul 1759 is not his date of death. This is a misread of Watson who is stating Thomas son of this Thomas "was a church warden of Suffolk Parish in 1757 and was probably dead July 13, 1759 when he is spoken of as a 'former church warden'."[4] The last record of this Thomas, husband of Elizabeth, appears to be as Justice of Nansemond in 1732.

The year of death 1759 is a misread of Watson who is discussing that this Thomas's son Thomas was dead by 1759. The last record of this Thomas is as Justice of Nansemond County in 1732. Corrected the date of death to read after 1732. Added additional primary and verified secondary citations to this profile.
