Wilcher's first name was spelled Wilshire in the 1850 census for Rutherford County but was spelled Wilcher in the litigation records for the estate of Hartwell Hyde - his father-in-law.[1] Some have incorrectly transcribed the 1850 census as Wiltshire - but there is no T - rather the tail of the Y from the line above extends down and appears to be part of his name.
Wilcher and his wife Mildred were living apart at the time of the 1850 census - Wilcher was enumerated in Rutherford County in the household of his daughter Minerva Jordan Jones and her husband and Mildred was enumerated in the household of her younger brother Hartwell B. Hyde in Williamson County.
