Biography

Benjamin John Josey was born in Heckfield, Berkshire in 1836, the son of Benjamin Josey of Heckfield, a Wheelwright, and Elizabeth Josey. He was baptised at All Saints Church, Swallowfield on 24 January that year.[1][2]
At the time of the 1841 Census, aged 5 years, he was with his parents at Heckfield.[3]
He married Caroline Webb in Newbury, Berkshire in 1860.[4] They had four children:
At the time of the 1861 Census, Benjamin and Caroline were at Stroud Green, Berkshire. Benjamin's father, Benjamin (70) was with them. Benjamin was working as a Wheelwright, following in the profession of his father.[5]
By 1871, they had two children, Eliza (7) and Arthur (4).[6]
Caroline Webb passed away in 1876, aged just 41 years. In 1877, Benjamin married Ruth Daughtry (1846-) in the district of Newbury.[7]
In 1881, Benjamin, Ruth, Arthur (14) and Jesse Josey (8), were living in Brimpton, Berkshire.[8]
In 1891, Benjamin and Ruth were living at Prospect Cottage, East Ilsley, Berkshire. John was still working as a Wheelwright. He was also Superintendent of the Baptist Mission, Worth.[9]
In 1901 and 1911 they were in Chieveley, Berkshire.[10][11]
The 1911 Census reports that Benjamin and Ruth had one child who had died.[11]
Benjamin passed away on 22 March 1922 at the age of 86. He was burried at St Mary the Virgin, Chieveley on 27 March that year. His occupation was recorded at Retired Baptist Minister.[12][13]
