Freelove Joslin was born Jul 4, 1718 in Kingstown, Rhode Island to Thomas and Mary (birth surname unknown.)[1] She is mentioned in Thomas Joslyn's will proved March 3, 1723/4 where he bequeathed his property to Freelove and her mother Mary with the stipulation that the daughter's half goes to "my deare beloved brother Henry Joslyn" if Mary does not reach age 18.[2]
Freelove married William Gardiner on May 19, 1737 in South Kingstown.[3] Other records state the marriage took place there on May 10, 1744.[4]
Because there was a five year gap between the births of Stephen and Mary, it's possible William married a second time.[5]
