If you go to the Help menu in the upper right hand corner of the screen you can find our Help Index and also our Intro to WikiTree, which is a great starting place for new members.
Many members do choose to start with a GEDCOM - if you go that way I'd encourage you to start small. Perhaps just one line, or only back a few generations. Submit one for import and then get a feel for the site and the time commitment and make sure it works for you. If you have any questions, happy to help! :)
Our vision is to build a collaborative tree with one profile per person. The farther back you go, it's likely you will find duplicate profiles to link into, so it's a good idea to do a search before you create a new profile.
Do you have Royal Ancestors? If so, they are already here! Please contact the EuroAristo Project to discuss connecting your family line to their already existing profiles.
WikiTree strives to be a fun, collaborative, productive site. It's also different than what many people are used to. Please take advantage of the Help Menu in the upper right hand corner, our G2G Forum and of course, our Mentors :)
Thank you for joining WikiTree. Our G2G Forum is searchable or you can post a question there.
The Help Index is also an important place to find how to do most tasks.
If I can be of help in any way, please let me know!
Welcome aboard!
Mary
I love to have complete information, and to do research to obtain the details needed to fill in the many gaps. I do this for myself and am always willing to help others with their needs. I come from a family with a long documented history down one line and not much on the other, so if I can help others figure out the connections in their history, I might come across something to fill in the gaps in mine!
If you are just looking for family or other researchers working on the same names as yours, use the surname search
function at the top of the profile page or ask at G2G Forum
If you would like to enjoy the benefits of being a full member, leave us a message here letting us know. If you just
want to be a guest, that's ok too but please let us know what you would like to do.
Once we see a message on your profile stating why you want to be a part of our collaborative genealogical community,
one of our greeters will confirm you . Enjoy this video done by one of our members about
