When Sarah Josselyn was born in 1779 in Sheffield, Massachusetts, her father, Lindsey, was 30, and her mother, Susan, was 27. She married Abel A Hawkins on November 27, 1808, in West Haven, Vermont. They had seven children in 19 years. She died on April 9, 1874, in Buxton, Maine, at the impressive age of 95, and was buried in Saco, Maine.
Sally Birth: 1779 Sheffield Berkshire County Massachusetts, USA.
Death: Apr. 9, 1874. Buxton York County. Maine, USA. Her death date is actually burial date. She was 90 years old. She was the daughter of Lindsey JOSSELYN and Susan WELCH.
Also note, from a message that was posted a few years back on a board, I believe that I have found out Lindsey Joslin/Josselyn's parentage: Jabez Joslin & Mary Lindsey.
Here is that message: In the 1850 census at Buffalo, in addition to Alanson, there was an Alvin Joslyn b. abt. 1790 in VT. This Alvin is probably the son of Lindsey Joslin/Susan Welch, said to be b. abt. 1790 in Poultney, Rutland, VT. (Lindsey was son of Jabez Joslin and Mary Lindsey. Many of the Joslin's born in VT at about the right time were children of Lindsey or of one of his brothers, and many of this line moved into NY State, to Batavia, Genesee, NY and vicinity. Alvin was in Warsaw, Genesee, NY in the 1840 census.) I have no concrete information on this, but an educated guess would be that your Alanson, Azuba and Alzada were siblings of Alvin (which also starts with an A). I have found Lindsey Joslin/Josselyn's findagrave memorial. However, I still do not know where Susan Welch is buried. Here at least is Sarah's father's memorial: Lindsey' Joslin. Sarah married Abel Hawkins on 27-Nov-1808. Abel died 28-Sep-1831 in West Haven,Rutland Co.,VT. We do not have a burial location for Abel.
Soon after his death she moved to Maine to live with her daughter Phoebe J (Hawkins) Skinner. Her daughter and son-in-law have headstones. Unfortunately, she does not.
UPDATE: In the summer of 2014, my first cousin visited the cemetery and found her headstone! Way to go Andrew!.
Offspring of Abel & Sarah (Josselyn) Hawkins.
1: Birth dates don't quite match up from.
2: Birth location is Castleton, Rutland Co, Vermont for all of them.).
My two sources, so I listed both birth dates.
A) Abel Merit Hawkins. (18-Nov-1809 - Kathleen). (03-Nov-1809 - Mary Jane).
B) Moses Lindsey Hawkins. (31-Dec-1811 - Kathleen). (01-Jan-1812 - Mary Jane).
C) Julius Jay Hawkins. 21-Nov-1813
D) William Franklin Hawkins. (06-March-1816 - Kathleen). (1816 - Mary Jane). Web info indicates that he moved sometime, and lived in Vermontville, Eaton County, Michigan. The 1850 census has him in a different family group, but in the same household as his older brother Moses L Hawkins. He also married Helen S. RICE in Vermontville in 1851. It is believed he earlier married Ann Clark.
E) Joseph Newell Hawkins. (07-April-1818 - Kathleen).
F) Salome Kelsey (Hawkins) Tavener. (28-Feb-1820 - Kathleen). (29-Feb-1825 - Mary Jane).
G) Susan Juliann (Hawkins) Owen. (13-Aug-1822 -- Kathleen).
H) Mary Jane Hawkins. (30-Sept-1826 - Kathleen). (Mary Jane does not have her.) Could she be Phoebe???.
I) Phebe Jane (Hawkins) Skinner. (Kathleen does not have her.). (1828 - Mary Jane). (Cemetery has buried 1-Jan-1881, 64 years old. - that would put her born in 1817).
