Biography

Abiathar/Abiather was the son of David & Elizabeth (Allen) Joy

He married Elizabeth Burt, daughter of Ebenezer & Abigail (Bartlett) Burt, on 4 Jan 1789 at Deerfield, Franklin, MA - their children included, David, Milea, Abiathar II, Ebenezer B., Lewis and Elizabeth Joy

"Death of a Patriot - We are called upon to announce the departure of another of that noble band of patriots of the Revolution, nearly all of whom have preceded him the the journey hence. Maj. Abiathar Joy, father of Col. A. Joy, of Clayton, died at that place on the 31st of Jul, aged 90 years. He served nearly through the Revolutionary War, and was in many of the hard-fought battles for freedom, and lived long to witness the glorious results of the hardships and rigors endured by himself and his compatriots".

He is buried at Clayton Center Cemetery, Clayton Center, Jefferson, NY (on his headstone his name is spelled Abiathar, which is correct, but his FAG memorial spells it Abiather)
