Emma was born about 1854, in Little Somborne, Hampshire, England. Her birth was registered at Stockbridge in the 3rd quarter 1854,[1] and she was christened 9th July 1854 at Kings Somborne.[2] She is the daughter of Charles Joyce and Ann Bower.
The family do not appear to have been recorded on the 1861 Census.
In the 1871 Census[3] Charles (age 65), an agricultural labourer and Ann (age 58) can be found living in Little Somborne with Emma Joyce (age 18), field worker, William Joyce (age 14), ploughboy, and George Joyce (age 8), whom they are passing off as their own child but is actually Harriet's illegitimate child.
Like many in this particular family, Ellen just disappears from records. She possibly married in 1873 and may have immigrated. Please feel free to edit if you know more about her**
