Biography

Rutha (Judd) Bryant was born in Appalachia, in Kentucky.

Rutha was born on 25 October 1829 in Adair County, Kentucky. She was the daughter of Joesph Judd and Nancy Cornwell.

She married Preston Shepherd on 11 March 1847 in Adair County, Kentucky.^[1]

She married Joseph Bryant in 1863.

Obituary:

Many hearts were made sad Feb 3rd, when God in his divine power, sent the Angel of Death to the home of Mr. Frank Shepherd and claimed for it's victim his beloved mother, Rutha Bryant. The deceased was reared in Adair county and was living near Garlin when the end came Thurday afternoon between 4 and 5 o'clock. She leaves six children, 4 girls and 2 boys. Her children were all with her during her entire sickness, except Mrs. Martha Harmon, who lives in Texas and Mr. Warner Shepherd who lives in Indiana. A good woman is a priceless gift from Heaven. Those who have a devoted mother knows what it is to give up mother. Her death was due to the infirmities of old age. She was 87 years 3 months and 9 days old. She was a member of the Baptist church. Professed faith in Christ early in life and lived a consistent member until the end. She died with perfect faith in Christ, that she was going to share the joys in that home with Christ and her dear ones that have gone on before. Her earthly existence is done, but she is a bright and shining light in heaven this morning. May all her children and grandchildren prepare to meet her in heaven, where there will be no sad partings. She will be greatly missed by her son and family with whom she lived.^[2]
