Biography

Jacob was born on 19 May 1831 in Columbia, Adair, Kentucky as the first born son of parents Nathan Judd (1807-1885) and Rebecca Grimes (1813-1890). It appears that he had 12 younger siblings - John, Leitha, William Henry, Matthias, Joseph H, Margaret Eveline, Simeon, Silas, Walter Wesley, Lois, Nathan Jackson, and Rebecca Nancy.[1]

Jacob married Sally (Davis) Judd, the daughter of Henry Davis and Susannah West, in Putnam County, Tennessee[1]

After the birth of son Francis Marion Judd (10 Jan 1855) and Sally's death in 1855 in Putnam County, Tennessee, Jacob remarried on 15 Jan 1857. His second wife was Mary Elizabeth Tupman, daughter of William Tupman.[1]

On 12 Jun 1860 Jacob (29) was living with his second wife, Mary Elizabeth Tupman (33) and four children born prior to 1957 - Suella (11), Malinda (8), Columbus (7), and Francis (5), and two additional children - Sarah (3) and John (9 months), who appear to be the children from his 2nd marriage. Jacob was working as a farmer in Putnam, Tennessee.[2]

Jacob was bushwhacked by a confederate soldier[3], passed away on 28 Aug 1865 and was later buried in the Judd Church Cemetery in Cookeville, Putnam, Tennessee.[1]

Research Notes

1st Wife Sally Davis:

What was the exact date of Sally's death in 1855?
Was her death related to the birth of their son, Francis Marion Judd, born 10 Jan 1855?
Did she go by a different name? Why is there no FaG memorial for her? (Note that she is not mentioned as a child in the FaG memorials for the following parents - needs to be further researched. I have not begun any research on Sally - If there is a birth/baptismal record that confirms these parents, she should have a memorial at FaG.)
Was the full name of her mother Susannah Caroline West Davis (8 May 17980 - 19 Aug 1885)?
Was the full name of her father Henry Jackson Davis (1794-1867)?

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Jacob by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Jacob:
