Biography

  • One slave and three free persons of color were enumerated in David's household in the 1800 US Census. In 1810, there were three free persons of color and no slaves. In 1820, four free persons of color, two free persons of color in 1830, and three in 1840.

His will is dated 10 February 1840 and proved on 5 April 1841 in Fairfield. He mentions his brother, Eli Judson's widow (but no name), the "coloured" man named Edwin Bulkley, his wife Esther, and Esther Judson Goodsell, daughter of Joel Goodsell.[1]

He is mentioned in the will. If he serves faithfully David's widow to her death, he is to receive the Joseph Hill Lot so called with the house and barn.
