Biography
Evelyn (Justen) Steinbach has German Roots.
"Evelyn was born June 29, 1916, at home on the family farm in Ringwood, to Jacob F. and Susan (Meier) Justen. Evie married the love of her youth, Jack J. Hart on June 14, 1941. Tragically, after only seven years, he was killed in a car accident. Though she thought she would never be happy again, she eventually met and married Jerry Steinbach, and they were blessed with 45 years of marriage. She devoted her life to her family, friends and the church and had been a lifelong member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church of McHenry. She had been instrumental in getting the St. Mary's boys basketball team together, and with the help of a coach, the boys were allowed to practice at East Campus High School and participate in a basketball league, playing with both private and public schools. The desire for St. Mary's school to have a gym was the driving force behind Evie's biggest commitment, the St. Mary's Rummage Sale. She was the first chairperson for the sale in 1956 and participated every year after until her health no longer allowed it. She had been an avid gardener and fruit picker so that she could preserve food to serve to her family all year round. Evie was very athletic, enjoying all outdoor sports, especially horseback riding and golf. She was in high school plays and enjoyed dancing."
