Simeon Justice was born in 1777, in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, a son of William and Margaret Justice. [2] On January 2, 1809, in Franklin County, Virginia, Simeon married [Mary] "Polly" Abshire, [3] a daughter of Peter McGrady Abshire and Eleanor "Nelly" Doran. [4]
The Justice family migrated from Virginia and settled at the mouth of Grapevine Creek, on the Levisa River, just south of Pikeville in Floyd County, Kentucky. "Simon Justice" is found on the United States Census of 1810, residing in Floyd, Floyd County, Kentucky. [5] Simeon is named in the Will of his father, written 3 July 1812 and recorded during the March session in 1813 at Floyd County, Kentucky. [6]
Simeon and Polly received their first land grant in Floyd Co., KY on Mar 6, 1817 on Grapevine Creek. Polly's father, Peter, had given them one male and two female slaves when the married as he did all his children. These slaves helped clear the land. Simeon was well educated and became involved in local politics.
Simeon is found on the United States Census of 1840 and 1850 residing in Pike County, Kentucky. [7][8] Simeon was a minister of the Primitive Baptist Church. He was also County Judge of Pike Co., KY [9]
