Finnur Jónsson is Notable.

Biskop Finnur Jónsson (1704-89), den berømte forfatter af hovedværket Historia ecclesiastica Islandiæ (I-IV; 1772-78), må også her nævnes; han var i sine studenterår knyttet til Arne Magnusson, og han var en af dem, der ivrigst hjalp til at redde hans skatte 1728. Han blev æresdoktor 1774 i anledning af Arveprins Frederiks formæling og nød stor anseelse i udlandet. [1] I øvrigt er han ikke kendt som udgiver, når man ser bort fra, hvad han optog af breve og dokumenter i sin kirkehistorie (hvor dog digtet Lilja også findes for første gang trykt i sin oprindelige form); herved var hans søn, den bekendte biskop, Hannes Finnsson (Finsen; 1739-96) ham behjælpelig.
