Research Notes
Christina Bayne of Bayne Genealogical Research, Blågullsvägen 9, 24471 Dösjebro, Sweden, baygenr@gmail.com, christinabayne.blogspot.se on 8/20/18 as hired by Richard Burbank responding to questions about Olaf's surname and father stated:
"Olof Jönsson Ekvall most likely took the name Ekvall at some point in life and for some reason. If he had been a blacksmith he would have taken a smith's name but in his case I haven't seen at what point in life he takes the name. That may be something that could have been noted in the parish book, I haven't gone through all the parish books for him so I haven't found when and where it happens. He was an illegitimate child, father unknown sadly. His last name of Jönsson most likely meant that his father's first name was Jöns (a typical first name in southern Sweden, hardly ever used further up north). It is highly likely that the father was married or could not marry her for some reason. She has given him his father's name which makes me think it was an acceptable situation. If the situation had been a sad event it would have been more likely that he would have had his mothers last name. Nothing certain but a highly likely scenario."
