Biography

Rasmus Jørgensen (spelt Jörgensen per original baptismal record) was born 24 Feb 1795, the son of Jörgen Arnesen & Grethe Jörgensdatter, & baptized 8 Mar of that year at the parish church of Eiker in Buskerud, Norway.[1] In 1801, the family resided at Steensrud in Modum Parish, Buskerud, where his father was a blacksmith.[2]

He was married for the first time to Elisabeth Sophie Thoresdatter on 29 Mar 1817 at Kongsberg, Buskerud.[3][4] The marriage produced six children prior to Elisabet Sophie's death in 1836. Rasmus was wed a second time, to Gunnil Carine Mogensdatter on 18 Dec 1837 at Sandsvær, also in Buskerud.[5]

In 1840, Rasmus was listed in the tax register for Kongsberg, with his occupation described as a gun manufacturer.[6]

His second marriage produced two children prior to Gunnild Carine's death in 1842. Rasmus was wed a third & final time to Elen Marie Ellefsdatter on 21 Oct 1844 at Kongsberg, & that marriage produced another three children.[7][8]

In 1865, still working as a gunsmith, Rasmus was listed on the census with his third wife & son Edvard at Sandsværmoen in Kongsberg.[9] He & his wife were at the same place, but then living with their daughter Berthe Marie in 1875.[10]

Rasmus Jørgensen died of old age in Kongsberg on 19 Mar 1876.[11][12]
