Clair Ignatius Kaliher was born Oct 9, 1892 in Princeton, MN to John Kaliher and Elsie Chadbourne. He was raised in Blue Hill and Baldwin. His father was a farmer and watch maker. He married Rachel Townsend around 1913. In 1914 his father had an 80 acre farm in Blue Hill and his brother had a 40 acre farm there. The 1917 draft registration listed him as a watch maker in Minneapolis working for Joseph H Green. In 1920, at age 28, he was an auto salesman in Princeton, MN, supporting his father. In 1930 he was department manager of the J. B. Hudson Jewelers, and owned his own home with his 7 children. He moved to a different home, buying it around 1932. He seemed to separate from his wife around 1935. Around 1936, he changed his name to Clair John Kaliher. In the 1940 census, at age 47, his wife Rachel was living without him with 3 of her 7 children. He was living with his new wife Anne in 1942 in Minneapolis. He and his sister Anne had moved again. He moved several times, keeping the shop at 919 West Broadway. He is not found after age 65. Claire died June 30, 1970 while living at 4215 Nichollet Ave South with Ann, and was buried in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.
