He married Margaret Sloan on 14 Nov 1895 at the Parish Church, United Church of England and Ireland, Tamlaght O'Crilly 'Derry, Northern Ireland.

The family left for Australia from London on the "Jumna" on 22 Sep 1900 and arrived in Rockhampton on 18 Nov 1900.

The family of Neely’s brother Stewart Kane went to Canada.
Another brother Adam Kane went to New York.

Another brother William Kane who was single, came to Australia but was lost in the bush and died during the prickly pear eradication.
