John Francis Kane Sr. was born on 24 November 1919 in Brooklyn, Kings, New York, United States. He was the son of Joseph Patrick Kane (1894 - 1952) and Hannah Barnett (1894 - 1968).^[1][2]

In 1920, John was living in Brooklyn Assembly District 8, Kings, New York.^[3]

John married Irene Jeanne Wilson on 29 September 1942 in Junction City, Geary, Kansas. He was the father of six children.^[2]

"He was a police sergeant with the Nutley Police Department for 28 years before retiring...He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as staff sergeant with the 20th Armored Division. He was a member of the Nutley Policemen's Benevolent Association, Local 33, and Stewart Edgar Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 493. He was a parishioner of St. Mary R.C. Church."^[2]
