Elsie Marie GROSS Passed away in Seattle on May 29, 2006 of pneumonia and complications of congestive heart failure. Elsie was born at the family farm near Alice, ND on September 16, 1916, the fifth of seven children born to Gustav and Marie (Schmidt) Kapaun. She completed grades one through eight in a one-room schoolhouse. In 1934, she married Frank Gross and moved to West Fargo, ND where children Veronica, Jim, and Dennis were born. In 1945, moved to Spokane, WA where Frank built their home and Donna was born. Elsie devoted her life to raising her family and volunteering in the community. She spent countless hours serving the Altar Society at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. She belonged to the Hillview Woman's Club. After Frank retired, they joined the Kaiser Retiree's Club, and helped found the Spokane Valley Senior Center. A few years after the death of her beloved husband Frank in 1992, Elsie moved to Shoreline, WA to live with Donna and Jon. Never one to sit idle, she became caretaker of the household. She joined Christ the King Catholic Church and the Shoreline Senior Center. She was a member of the Rosary Group, volunteered in the thrift shop, and spent Thursday afternoons playing pinochle. Even as her health failed, she could still play a shrewd game of cards and usually won! Elsie is survived by her children, Veronica O'Connor, Augusta, GA; Jim Gross, Glenelg, MD; Dennis (Cheryl) Gross, Antioch, TN; Donna (Jon) Moss, Shoreline, WA; 10 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson; her sister Helen (Tom) Corcoran, Fargo, ND; several sisters-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews; and a wide circle of friends. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Elsie Gross Memorial Fund at the Peripheral Neuropathy Foundation: 4646 Poplar Ave, Suite 336 Memphis, TN 38117. Vigil Service at Christ the King Church at N 117th and Dayton Ave N. in Seattle at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 14th with reception to follow.
