Note N66Sidney was a private tutor who also worked in his later years for Kaplan Ed Centers. He had his own company, Kaye Tutors, in Brooklyn. Sidney translated 2 plays from German into English for Barron's early in his ed. career. He was a good athlete (pitching baseball), knew several languages (French, Spanish, German, Hebrew) and loved to pun, get in political discussions, be active civically, played the piano, and garden vegetables.
He died at NYU Hospital of stomach cancer. He was sensitive, subject to periodic depressions, loved life.
SS #052-16-3396 lists address as 3118 Ave. K, Brooklyn (Flatbush), working for Errand Service Co, 874 Broadway, NYC, employed as of 8/7/1938, then age 21.
Received 12/02, certificate of military service for Sidney E. Kaplan, #32 518 186, served in US Army from Oct. 16, 1942 to Feb. 18, 1946. Received honorable discharge, last rank was sargeant. Entitled to WWII Victory Medal and Honorable Service Lapel Button. I will be receiving these awards, Award Request #A0047D6392002, from US Army Soldier and Biol. Chemical Command, IMMC, Solder System Team, POB 57997, Philadelphia, PA 19911-7997.
