Sgt. John A. Karibo, son of Mr. and Mrs. John M. Karibo, 414 Ontario St., Bellefontaine, Ohio. Anderson Herald

John was born in 1938 to parents John Martin Karibo (1907-1983) and Eleanor Marie Smith (1914-1996) in 1936 in Ohia.[1]

John, age 3, lived with his parents in Bellefontaine, Logan, Ohio, in 1940. His father was an electrician for a steam railroad.[2]

John attended Bellefontaine High School, where he was known as "Big John". The Student Council photo shows him—the tallest boy—in the 3rd row. He was on the track and basketball teams.[3]

John and Tanya Kay Baum married young, as Tanya married 2nd when she was 23.

Tanya was the widow of John A. Karibo when she married Daniel Joseph Wagner on 6 October 1962.[4]

Big John, a 6-year veteran, was among the 93 soldiers who perished when Flying Tiger flight 739 disappeared into the Pacific Ocean on 15 March 1962.Anderson Herald

Ohioans Among Missing
Karibo, a Bellefontaine High School football star, had decided to make a career in the Army. He entered service shortly after graduation seven years ago.
He had been stationed at Ft. Meade, Md., following completion of a tour of duty in Germany, before being sent to South Viet Nam.
His wife, Tanya and daughter, Kimberly, live with her parents at Bellefontaine. Karibo's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John M. Karibo, also live there.
