Biography

From Sonia Caldwell's family notes: "Our research shows a Nicholas Karn Sr. born 1687 and died 1749 with wife Margaret born 1687 and died before 1770 and Nicholas karn Jr. born 1727 and died before 1798, married to Eva Elizabeth ? Bowman in 1759, the widow of Hans Heinric Bowman. This information found in "First Families of America". Karn/Carn/Carns found in "History of Rockingham Co., VA.

Michael Carns/Kerns was burned at the stake in Germany for his religious beliefs. His widow brought his ashes to Pennsylvania. (The ashes and urn are still in possession of a descendant.) The widow, Catherine, married secondly Matthew Schaup/Shoup/Shaup (and other spellings). They purchased land land in Augusta Co. VA (1778 became Rockingham Co.) near Keezletown, VA. His will was probated 3/Nov/1750. Eldest son-in-law (sic he meant step-son) George Carn (Jr.) and George Carn, left the full estate.

Same family?: Research records of Barr family "Bear News" letters on file show William Karn born 1725 and died 18 Aug 1800 married #2 Marie Salome Baer, ca 1767. she was born 1758/60 and is the daughter of Christophel Baer and Catherine Wingert. Lorentz Karn born 5 Mar 1741 and wife Catherine Bar daughter of Melchoir Bar 2 and Eva Christman his second wife.
