Greetings Chris,

I hope you checked your email associated with your account. The answer to your question became multi-faceted and too large for this small area so I sent you a "pm" (private message). If you have any other questions I shall try and assist.

Cheers!

Greetings!

Now that you have had a little time to try WikiTree, there are a few more features you may find useful.

Ideas on what to include in a profile can be found in Styles and Standards, including some tips on writing biographies.

If you need to describe an event, an heirloom or a location relevant to your research, you may like to learn about Free Space Profiles.

Lastly, sometimes you'll run into unresponsive profile managers. We have a process for resolving those unfortunate situations.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask via my profile page.

I see that you have had DNA testing.

If you are interested, WikiTree has a special DNA Project. Information on WikiTree's projects may be accessed from the FIND link, at the top right of most WikiTree pages; select PROJECTS from the drop down box.

Contact Kitty Smith if you would like additional details about the DNA project. You might also like to search for discussions tagged with DNA in our forum, G2G.

I see you have uploaded a GEDCOM. There are several steps between uploading and importing a GEDCOM. (Let me know if links don't work.)

Please read WikiTree's GEDCOM instructions and/or these alternative step-by-step instructions with screenshots. Also, consider reading discussions about GEDCOMs in our forum, G2G.

A couple of tips:

  • Start by importing only 10-20 profiles, so you can get a sense of the time needed to edit each profile. Then you can decide whether to commit to editing an entire GEDCOM.
  • If your ancestor was born over 200 years ago, she/he likely already has a WikiTree profile.
