Birth

Bessie Marie Kauffman was born December 12, 1912 in Canton Township, Stark County, Ohio. She was the fourth daughter of Frank H. Kauffman and Ida Myrtle Shorb both born in Ohio.[1]

Early Life

By 1920, she was 6 years old living at 723 Northwest 21st Street in Canton, Ohio with her parents and six siblings. Her father was working as a house painter and she had begun attending school.[2]

Ten years later, she was still attending school and living in the same house in Canton, Ohio with her parents and brothers Henry and WIlbur. The house was rented by her father and he and her brother Henry both worked as paint contractors. They had no radio.[3]

Married Life

Bessie married Charles Klinesmith in September of 1932 in Imlay City.[1] They made their home in Tuscola County and had the following children:

  1. a daughter, still living
  2. Donna Jean, born August 5, 1935 in Wells Township
  3. a daughter, still living
  4. Charles Franklin, born September 22, 1938 in Caro
  5. Roy Daniel, born August 2, 1940 in Caro
  6. a son, still living

By 1940, she was 27, married, and living in Wells Township, Tuscola County, Ohio with her husband Charles, their three young daughters, and infant son. Her husband worked as a sewer foreman and made $466 the previous year.[4]

Bessie was employed by the Caro Regional Center starting in 1974. She was also an assistant supervisor for the Central Kitchen until her retirement on May 5th 1976.[5]

Death and Legacy

Bessie passed away July 10, 1976 at the Caro Community Hospital in Caro, Michigan after a lengthy illness. Funeral services were conducted the following Tuesday on the 13th in the Mayville United Methodist Church at 1 pm by Rev. Ralph Barteld. [5] Bessie was buried in West Dayton Cemetery in Mayville, Michigan.[1]

Surviving her was her husband Charles, three sons, three daughters, eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, one of her three sisters, and two of her three brothers.
