Kauffman, Joseph J., son of the late Jacob and Agatha (Ackerman) Kauffman; born Oct. 21, 1884, at Esholzmatt, Switzerland; died suddenly at his home near Wayland, Iowa, on Oct. 13, 1958, just eight days before his 74th birthday. Married March 11, 1908, to Lydia Boese, who died April 9, 1937. Surviving are two children (Leona, at home; and Clarence, Ainsworth, Iowa), 4 grandchildren, 4 sisters (Lena-Mrs. Emil Stalder, Washington, Iowa; Mary-Mrs. Joe Stalder, Brighton, Iowa; Emma-Mrs. Fred Stalder; Agie-Mrs. August Glansman, both of Wayland), 2 brothers (Louie and Andy, both of Wayland). Two brothers preceded him in death. Member of the Sugar Creek Church, where funeral services were conducted on Oct. 15 by Simon Gingerich and Vernon Gerig; interment in nearby cemetery.[1]
Joseph was born 21 Oct 1884 on the "Stierenweid" in Escholzmatt, Entlebuch, Luzern, SWITZERLAND. He immigrated to USA from LeHavre, FRANCE and arrived on 21 Mar 1891 at Ellis Island in New York.
