Biography

Denis was born in 1920 in Dunbur in County Wicklow, Ireland, the son of John Kavanagh and Josephinia Byrne. Denis started working as a heavy machinery operator in construction. He married Monica May Kaye in Surrey, London in 1947. They had a first child in Camberwell, London before moving to America in 1948. They lived for a while in Omaha, Nebraska where they had three more children. The family returned to England in 1957 and settled in the Mansfield area. They had one last child there. Denis worked for his brothers' construction company until he formed his own company, Sherwood Plant Hire, with his brother John. Denis died in Wicklow in 1998 at age 78.
