According to the 1851 census Henry, 14, is working as a Piecer Of Cotton Spinner and living with his father and step-mother in Club Houses, Turton, Bolton, Lancashire, England.

In 1861 Henry is living in Sharples, Lancashire. He is 22, working as a Cotton Spinner and married to Margaret, 22. They have one daughter, Martha A., 1. The census suggests that Margaret was born in Sharples, Lancashire, England.

By 1871 the family is living in 2 Long Row, Bank Top, Lancashire. Henry, 32, is working as an Operative Spinner. Margaret Kay, his wife, is 32. Children in the household include: John Kay, 8; Mary Kay, 6; Hannah Kay, 3; Robert Kay, 1.

The family has moved by 1881 and is living in 18 Eskrick Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Henry, 42, is a Spinner In Cotton Mill. The census suggests that Margaret Kay is 39. In 1911 Henry, 72, is living with his daughter, Martha, and her family in Shropshire. He is a Retired Minder. His wife, Margaret Annie Kay, 69, is also living in the household.

The 1921 census records Henry at Bolton.

He passed away at the age of 86 in 1924 at Bolton and is buried at Christ Church, Walmsley, Lancashire, England (Grave 407 N.G.) At the time of his death, he was living at 31 Whalley Rd, Padiham.[1]

Based on Lancashire Parish Records, Henry Kay had 2 wives, both named Margaret. Henry Married Margaret Hall in 1859 and they had children Martha A Kay (1959-1969); Mary (1961-1961); John Kay (1863-1930); another Mary (1965-?); Hannah (1867-1868) and Robert (1870-?).

Margaret Hall Kay died in 1871 and Henry married Margaret Ann Entwistle and together they had Henry Kay (1874-?), Martha (1875-? - who married Robert Rostron); Harriet Kay (1877-1877) and James Joseph Kay (1879-1946).

James and John both migrated to Australia and died in Queensland. Their death records list their mothers names.
