Temuka Leader [5] 11 June 1903 KAY—KING—On May 20th, 1903, at the residence of the bride’s parents, Arowhenua, Beatrice Ada eldest daughter of Mr Thomas King, of Arowhenua, to Z. Kay, youngest son of Mr George Kay, of Cheviot.

Temuka Leader, 11 June 1903 WEDDING BELLS. A very pretty wedding was celebrated at the residence of Mr Thos. King, Arowhenua on the 20 th ult., when Beatrice Ada, eldest daughter of Mr T. King, was united in bonds of holy matrimony to Mr Z. Kay, the youngest son of Mr Geo. Kay, of Cheviot. The officiating clergyman was the Rev. J. Blight. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a royal blue dress trimmed with white silk, and she also wore the orthodox veil and orange blossoms, the bridesmaids were Miss Martha Mitchell and Miss Bella King. The former wore a dress of white muslin with yellow sateen and hat to match, and the latter a dress of navy blue, relieved with white trimmings and hat to match. Temuka Leader, Issue 5591, 12 November 1907 ANOTHER FIRE IN TEMUKA. At an early hour yesterday morning another fire was added to the list of mysterious fires that have occurred in Temuka during the past twelve months, when the four-roomed residence of Mr Z. Kay, in Hornbrook Street, was totally destroyed by fire. Mr Kay left for Wellington on Saturday last, and at the time the fire broke out, between four and five o'clock, there were in the house Mrs Kay and three children (one an infant) and Mrs Kay's sister, Miss King. Mrs Kay states that she was awakened by the baby, and was going to attend to it when she noticed that the room was full of smoke. She at once awoke the children and her sister, and they got out of the house as quickly as they could. Mrs Kay caught up a few clothes for herself and the children, but Miss King had only her night attire, the room in which she was sleeping being all ablaze when the alarm was given. The alarm was at once given to the neighbours, and the first on the scene was Mr J. Boulter and his sons Charles and Harry. Mr Boulter went round to the back, and made an attempt to extinguish the fire. To him it appeared that the fire had broken out in the little porch at the back of the kitchen and he thinks that had he plenty of water at his command he might have mastered the fire. However, he soon found out that he was beaten. Meanwhile Messrs Charles and Harry Boulter got into the front rooms and saved the piano, some chairs, and a few other things, but everything in the two other rooms was destroyed. Others arrived too late to save anything, as the fire spread very rapidly. The house was an old one of wood, and the fire lasted a very short time. A detached wash-house was also destroyed. It was fortunate that what wind there was was from the south, as Mr Boulter's house, on the south side, was only about thirty feet away. Wet blankets were hung over the windows, and practically no damage was done to this house. The origin of the fire is a mystery. There was no fire in the kitchen range after tea, and the whole of the family were in bed about eight o'clock, everything appearing to be practically safe when they retired. All the insurances were in the London, Liverpool and Globe Office, the house being covered, for £125, the furniture for £75, the piano for £30. [3][4]

TEMUKA LEADER, ISSUE 5594, 19 NOVEMBER 1907, PAGE 2 I WISH to sincerely Thank all those who rendered assistance during the fire at my house, also to kind friends for sympathy and offers of assistance and especially to Mr and Mrs J. Boulter for taking in my wife and family in my absence. Z. KAY. TENDERS.[5]
