Note: From a taped interview of Wiliam Herman Stilwell, son of Francis Paddock, grandson of Mary. Bill "Shorty" is my grandfather and my mother Virginia taped this and typed it up as part of the family records/oral history. This interview took place in 1958 in Medford Oregon. We, in the family, heard this story many times - and many other stories from our great extended family. When the paper trail comes to and end, what is left is the wonderful oral history remembered and recalled by the old ones. This is written exactly as Grandpa Shorty said it.

"My mothers folks were named Paddock and they came through the Wilderness with Daniel Boone and settled Kentucky when it was full of very wild Indians.

My mother's mother was a full-blooded German, named Kaiser, and later this name was changed to Kayse as names are often changed by the people from the old country when entering the states.

About 70 or 80 years ago, a member of the Kayse family took a 99 year lease on land which now holds the city of Louisville Kentucky, it having built out and over this area. The party passed away and the lease was simply ignored by the builders of the area. It is entirely possible that all survivors have now due them much rent from this lease. My sisters cousin has done some research on this lease and you can find out what she's learned by writing to my sister."

He gave Virginia a business card from his sister's husband, B.L. McDonald, Roofer in Oklahoma City. Virginia did some follow-up but, of course, nothing was ever "found" by the city, the State of the Government.
