Marriage & Finance Woes
1885 Mrs. Muldoon sued her husband, Francis Muldoon, for maintenance. The husband did not appear, and a warrant was signed for his arrest. [20]
1885 Francis Muldoon was sued by his wife for maintenance, he having left, her without any means of support. Complainant said that her husband about a month ago sold off all the household goods and went to Launceston, leaving her with nothing. She took a small house, and her husband returned after about a fortnight's absence, and stayed with her a fortnight, but subsequently left, and stayed in a boarding house, he was employed by the corporation at 5s. 6d. a day. She had given him no cause for leaving. In answer to defendant, complainant said that she had ordered him out when he was blind drunk, and would not pay the rent. Defendant said that he left his wife because he was abused, and had promised to give her a sum of money out of his wage without coming to the Police Court. The magistrates made an order upon defendant to pay 10a. a week for his wife's maintenance.[21]
1885 At the City Police Court to-day, in the maintenance case Muldoon v. Muldoon, the defendant, Francis Muldoon, was ordered to pay 10s per week towards the support of his wife. [22]
