First Lieutenant, Assistant Surgeon in the United States Army. He served for at least two years in France during WWI, including some time at the American Hospital of Paris located just west of the city in Neuilly-sur-seine. He contracted malaria during his service in France and was seriously ill with the disease and complications resulting from it.
He and his family were practicing Catholics.
